I am sure when you look at the photograph leading my latest blog of 8 men ( one slightly obscured) you will probably be thinking what are these men doing with these white sacks on their heads.
Maybe you assume they are lifting them off a truck...but I will give you a clue ....Petrol has run out in Kabale .....so everyone needs to walk.
For our regular readers you will recall during the Covid Pandemic our crops at Lake Bunyonyi had to be carried on foot...or more precisely on top of one's head.
Our crops at Lake Bunyonyi had become ready....all 2.5 acres .
I never thought we would see a repeat of those days...... But it has happened again ...and it is happening now.
So let me remind you of the dynamics....
From Orphanage of Hope to Lake Bunyonyi 17 kilometres. Not a flat road but red earth and hilly.
Then hours spent digging beans, peas, Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes.
From there it is back to the Orphanage of Hope . Same hills , same heat and dust . Another 17 kilometres .
Each man carrying 60 kgs to 80 kgs.( The man on the right with the yellow shirt is a Rwandese man named Crodi He carries 80 kgs and he does it in bare feet.
Try it ...lift an 80 kilogram person over your head ....or put some weight plates on top of the head.....ouch !!!
And each time they are paid NZD3 . Every second day . (4 men each day ). We are running out of time as the lease expires in July. We need to move all the crops we planted and have paid for their cultivation.
Out of Adversity comes Victory !
A very close neighbour to the Orphanage of Hope unexpectantly announced that he wanted to sell his 2.0 acres of highly productive land. It is on the boundary of the Orphanage so it ticks all the boxes as regards location...
What makes it even more exciting is that it is planted with Sweet Potatoes, Beans , Maize and Pumpkins,
On Wednesday ( just two days ago ) the land transfer documents were finalised .....so the Trust owning the land will make a huge difference . It will extend our food supply by 5 months. Once again we are so blessed to have had LD paying for this amazing asset.
Our wonderful security wall is nearing completion . The photograph shows the Archway of the main entrance.
It is hoped the wall will be completed in the next couple of weeks...with barbed wire, lighting and security cameras.
It has been a very busy month and it hasn't hardly got past the first week of May.
Thank you for loving the orphaned children....we are so blessed to have you showing an interest in reading my updates, and to our wonderful small group of donors.
God Bless you
Lindsay ❤️
