Building A Wall .....

This is not any garden wall ...this is a security wall that will cover over two hectares ....not because we want to build it for its astetic beauty , but because of necessity.
Before putting equipment into our newly built Brian Sloan Skills Training Centre, we wanted to review options .
Maybe putting several more security men and extra dogs ...maybe putting increased lighting ....but we had to have something in place to stop thieves from entering the school , ( which they do always under the cover of darkness and in many cases during torrential rain). They even come with battery operated grinders and in the latest case have attacked windows and doors....the rain muting the noise coming from the grinders.
I am told they were after our builders wall making equipment and cement ....they were a gang known to police but in all liikelihood have retreated across the border into Rwanda .
Our security team did a fine job on this occassion but their safety is of paramount importantance to us as well.
We had two options ...shoot the intruders or build a wall. Whilst a part of me would like option 1 in reality the only way is to build a 12 foot high wall reinforced with concrete and wire built the rocks and bricks encompassing an area of over 2 hectares with razor wire and security lighting. .
When I recieved the costing and the 2 pages detailing the materials required , I really thought there is no way this is ever going to happen it was a substantial amount of money.
But our wonderful Lanie again has put her hand up and is underwritting the cost of this great wall of Uganda ... 2nd only to another Great wall which I am sure you know what I am talking about .
Work has been progressing well but the rainfall has hampered the work somewhat ....but as you can see a lot of work has been done and over the next 6 to 8 weeks you will see more updates.
Keeping staff, orphans , workers and our limited resources safe and secure is of vital importance...we are indebted to Lanie of course for this wonderful gesture as we are indebted to the very small group of loyal and essential donors who give regularly to keep this wonderful School and orphanage going.
PS . Another good news story is about to be posted .... so keep a close eye on your In Box.
Take care and God Bless
