Never in my life have I been so pleased to see a roof installed on a building !
Normally in the western world we use concrete blocks , in Uganda Mud bricks are used extensively which is compressed mud fired to a hardness. However they do deteriorate in time if exposed to water and they will crumble. The position of the Orphanage of Hope Education Centre is on a hill, in fact in a gully , which makes building a lot more difficult. We are blessed that we have excellent experienced builders and Brian the man who has played the biggest part in drawing up the plans and overseeing all the buildings at the school and orphanage , has done an incredible job.
Cogan too has played his part of course in being the liaison between Brian and myself and has answered a considerable number of questions on a daily basis , so that we have not only very safe buildings that comply to the Ugandan building code but are strong enough to withstand adverse flooding , extreme wind, landslides and earthquakes....(they too are on an active fault line).
As I have mentioned we are building a Specialist Skills Training Centre to teach our orphans real life skills that they can use as a career once they turn 22 years of age , when they formally are able leave the Uganda Education System.
There is still several months of work required to complete .... plastering the entire building on the outside brick work , completing the " splash apron" or the footpath that surrounds the building stopping water entering the foundation. Then of course as the September rains pour down its inside to lay the concrete flooring.
One thing we will be asking our faithful few supporters and donors is for a hand to paint the buiding. Not physically of course but we will need $2,813 by the end of October to be able to complete what is an amazing project .
The painting was costed in the original budget , but we added another building which is for the Head Master and Security which is really important for the efficent running and security of our school.
Thank you for reading.....and thank you for your support.
Kind Regards
Lindsay
