The last blog showed progress being made on the toilet block at the Orphanage of Hope School , I am happy to report that the work has now been completed, and the toilets are so appreciated by all .

What impresses me , is the dedication the workers put into their work particularly as all is done with the very basics of hand tools …no plans , no tape measures or laser levels, just an ability to make things well .

Having to make buildings watertight …..( mud bricks don’t like water especially when everything floods) .

We are very grateful to Lanie to make this happen, it was a great concern that Typhoid had reared its ugly head and not having adequate toilet facilities was always the precursor for the spread of this preventable disease.

As you can see by Western standards , the toilets are very basic …..just a little room with a door and a hole in the floor. But Medius tells me that our toilets ( the one at the school and the one outside the boys dormitory ) are far superior to the Government schools.

Cogan is slowly recovering from major surgery , he is still very weak and is having to rest and sleep a lot. He still hasn’t resumed his full time responsibilities. Medius has and is doing an incredible job deputising as well as the Head Master who had to stay and support Cogan whilst he was in the hospital …no nurses, no food …

We are so grateful to all our wonderful supporters …without your continued financial support we would be doomed. It is a very difficult balancing act made even more difficult with what Mr Trump has proposed….and the effect on international currencies ….and of course the Ukraine Russian war has escalated the price of Maize

( Maize Porridge is Africa’s staple food. )

Apart from the essential monthly support we are needing to replace 58 mosquito nets and build a little storage area next to where we cook food….presently everything involved in the cooking as well as plates, cups , and utensils are stored in a Classroom…. not ideal.

In the next week I will be writing to all who have donated in the last year with an official receipt .

For eligible New Zealand tax payers ,donations will attract the IRD donations rebate. It would be wonderful if this rebate could used to bless the Orphanage in the future …..remember every single dollar donated reaches the children.

Be blessed

Lindsay
