HOW TO CONCRETE IN A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY.

We have been concerned for some time about the classroom floors . We had two problems ...one : excessive rainfall ( a real concern) which has the potential to erode the mud brick walls and bring down the entire buildings . It isn't helped by the inside floors being lower than the floor foundations. Problem #2 : the children didn't have enough seating so many were sitting on the floor. Many were getting "Jitters" that is a rash that in many cases , causes great discomfort and may require hospitalisation.

We were so blessed in January ( refer to previous blog ) by the Trinity Church in Temuka donating funds to build more desks and repair many of the older desks. This meant that every child could sit off the ground. The desks are very rudimentary and three children sit to each desk. Compared to sitting on the floor it is bliss . After all of them spend a considerable part of their life at the school.

The orphans are so grateful.

Upon reading what I wrote last month, our wonderful friends Lanie & John underwrote the $10,500 cost to cement the 7 classroom floors. I questioned Cogan a number of times why they had to purchase truck loads of rock in addition to truck loads of aggregates and sand...and it really wasn't until I had it explained why we had to raise the level of the floors, that it all made sense.

So here are a selection of photos as we near the competition of the first room.

Thank you so much for your continued financial support and interest.

Without it would be impossible to support these 172 orphans and teachers and support staff. It also brings work for the community of Kabale which is very impoverished.

The in excess of $110,000 NZ Dollars sent last year has transformed the lives of these orphaned children.

Early April we will be printing Receipts for those eligible to claim the 30% IRD donations rebate....being able to use that Rebate from the NZ Government will make a profound difference .......more to follow .....

PS. We are now starting room 3 ....4 to go.!!!

These workmen are amazing... working with next to nothing doing a superb job.

Now here is a question .....Why do they spread Banana Leaves on the Floor ???

They take great pride in their working hard physically in super hot conditions .
