THE JOY OF SAVING A LIFE (2)

The saving a life can never be measured in qualifiable terms when you know deep down in your heart it must be done regardless of the cost.

At our Orphanage of Hope we have three children all with HIV /AIDS who must have a complete blood transfusion every 2 to three years.

This is a drawn out, painful and expensive ( from a Ugandan prospective) operation and can only be carried out in the capital Kampala in their major hospital.

Getting there requires a 10 hour public bus ride , in an overcrowded square box on 4 wheels often filled with twice the permitted number of passengers , livestock of all descriptions ; baggage and freight.

Just surviving this ordeal is a mission in itself...believe me I have done it.

On top of this Medius has to accompany the girls both for safety and look after all their needs including providing food for them to eat. Sleeping for her is often on the floor in the hospital corridor.

This process can take a week and the cost is a rather unwelcome $2,200 NZD when funding for the Orphanage is a tight as the string on a Banjo.

Since we created the Orphanage of Hope in 2018 we have not lost a child and too that we have been blessed and a record we are very grateful for.

However the cost is high and we are so grateful for the regular continuing support of our wonderful donors who donate sacrificially to keep these children alive.

The photo below shows Prossy and Daphne along with Medius.

The fact that they are not smiling is because of shyness of having their photo taken as well as the effects of the afore mentioned horrific bus ride.

Believe me they are extremely grateful for the generosity of kind people who literally saved their lives ( Special Mention to the Trinity Church Womans Fellowship who donated over 75% of the funds needed.)

We are really going softly softly with equiping the new Brian Sloan Skills Training Centre. We are very mindful that there are some very nasty men who want to rob, and maime the children and staff if given the opportunity. They are often high on alcohol or marijuana( or both) .

Late last year an armed security guard was killed very close to where I stayed in 2022. They will have no need for the equipment but will sell them to pay for their addictions.

For several months I have considered building a solid fence around the school but the cost is out of our league ( 2 acres in size)

However we may put in a solid fence and security gate to deter intruders along the gravel road and in time put a wire fence along other vulnerable areas.

But I have approved the employment of a second security guard....Herbert our long serving security guard and Guard Dog (Mike Tyson) will guard the school property while our newly about to graduate security guard Tukesiga Wilbroad will be responsibile

( along with Security Guard Dog (Brutus) will cover the Orphanage and Children.

In Addition we have added security lighting in the School including the BSSTC .

Once the rain stops we will be finishing painting the outside of the schools 7 classrooms. ( Currently shown in the above photo with the white Primmer/ Sealer coat )

Thank you so much for your support and Interest .
